Welcome to the comprehensive guide on socketing gear in BruteCO! Socketing is a crucial aspect of enhancing your gear. It’s one of toughest things to accomplish on the server, especially getting your 2nd socket in an item. This guide will walk you through the basics, strategies, and tips to master the art of socketing.
Understanding Socketing
Socketing is the process of adding sockets to your gear (weapons, armor, etc.), into which you can insert gems for various enhancements.
Please note, this guide primarily is focused on socketing your gear through ArtisanWind in Twin City using Meteors.
Base Socket Chance
- What is it? The base chance of successfully adding a socket to an item.
- Default Rate: The base socket chance is 0.065%, or in decimal, 0.00065.
- Second Socket Rate: Base Rate / 2.65 (Default 0.065% / 2.65 = 0.0245%)
Factors Affecting Socket Chance
- Item Quality: Items come in different qualities – Normal, Refined, Unique, Elite, and Super. Higher quality items have a lower base success rate for socketing.
- Item Level: The success chance decreases as the item level increases. Every 5 levels above level 5, the success chance decreases by 1%, with a minimum chance of 10%.
- Meteor Tears: Using Meteor Tears triples the base socket chance, and gives you 10% more success chance.
- Lucky Time: Activating Lucky Time adds a 5% increase to the base success chance.
- Socket Tome/Scroll: Using a Socket Tome or Scroll doubles the base socket chance.
- Socket Luck: Players can increase their socket luck percentage with LuckyCakes by 1% each cake, to a maximum of 50% bonus, which adds to the socket chance.
- Second Socket: Going for a second socket divides the base socket chance by 2.65.
The Socketing Process
- Choose Your Item: Select the item you wish to socket. Remember, the item’s quality and level will impact your success rate. You have a higher final chance of socketing if the item has low +, lower quality, no other sockets.
- Gather Materials, Prepare: Ensure you have the necessary gems and any special items like Meteor Tears or Socket Scrolls. You can go for sockets quicker by enabling AutoSpam at the oven beside ArtisanWind in Twin City. You can also set a level limit here to stop at, and choose which gems you would like to use to assist in socketing/upgrading.
- Attempt Socketing: Use the socketing interface in the game to attempt to add a socket. The success or failure depends on the calculated chance based on the above factors.
Tips for Successful Socketing
- Start with Lower Quality Items: Begin with Normal or Refined items, as they have a higher base success rate.
- Save, Use Boosters Wisely: Save items to use in bulk, then you can pop off a SocketScroll or SocketTome and spam MeteorTears for the best chance possible!
- Manage Expectations: Remember, socketing is a game of chance. Even with all boosters, success isn’t guaranteed.
- Plan for Second Sockets: If aiming for a second socket, be prepared for a significantly lower success rate.
Example Scenarios
Scenario 1: Socketing a Normal Level 5 Item with Meteors
- Base Success Chance: 40% (for a Normal Level 5 item).
- Using Meteors: No additional change to the base success chance.
- Final Socket Chance: Remains at the base rate of 0.065%.
Result: When using Meteors on a Normal Level 5 item, the upgrade success chance stays at 40%, and the final socket chance is 0.065%.
Scenario 2: Socketing a Normal Level 5 Item with Meteor Tears
- Base Success Chance: 40%.
- With Meteor Tears: Base Socket Chance (0.065%) * 3 and +10% Success Chance
- Final Socket Chance: 0.195%.
Result: Using Meteor Tears on a Normal Level 5 item increases the upgrade success chance, and the final socket chance remains to 0.195%.
Scenario 3: Socketing a Normal Level 5 Item with Lucky Time Active
- Base Success Chance: 40%.
- With Lucky Time: 40% + 5% = 45%.
- Final Socket Chance: 0.065%.
Result: With Lucky Time active, the upgrade success chance for a Normal Level 5 item increases to 45%, while the final socket chance stays at 0.065%.
Scenario 4: Socketing a Normal Level 5 Item with a Socket Scroll Active
- Base Success Chance: 40%.
- Socket Scroll Active: Doubles the base socket chance.
- Final Socket Chance: 0.065% * 2 = 0.13%.
Result: With a Socket Scroll active, the upgrade success chance remains at 40% for a Normal Level 5 item, but the final socket chance is increased to 0.13%.
Understanding Success Chance vs. Socket Chance
In the game, you have two separate processes when enhancing your gear: upgrading it and adding a socket to it. Each of these processes has its own chance of success, but they are connected in how they affect your gear.
- Upgrade Success Chance: This is the probability of successfully improving your gear’s level or quality. It’s the first step you need to take. If this upgrade attempt fails, you don’t get the chance to add a socket to your gear. The success of this step depends on factors like the item’s current level and the materials used for the upgrade.
- Socket Success Chance: This is the probability of successfully adding a socket to your gear, but it’s only relevant if you’ve already successfully upgraded your gear. The chance of adding a socket is influenced by different factors, such as the type of gems or special items you use, and any bonuses your character might have.
In simple terms, you need to first succeed in upgrading your gear. If you do, you then get a chance to add a socket to it. So say your final socket chance is 0.065%, and upgrade chance is 50%. If your upgrade chance was 80%, your final socket chance is actually higher, as you’re likely to fail less, using less Meteors to obtain it.
